SIDEWAYS STORIES FROM THE WAYSIDE SCHOOL - 2016, The Alden

This theatrical adaptation of the Louis Sachar classic is awash in a vibrant color palette you might find in an ordinary elementary school classroom, albeit one built sideways (with the trash can anchored to the back wall). The school’s untraditional elements include a bloodthirsty substitute intent on turning the students into apples, oversized pigtail puppets, and an animated blackboard (with glow-in-the-dark text on the spelling banner) heralding the appearance of the eccentric Miss Zarves from the non-existent 19th story.
